5 Great Group Getaways Near Los Angeles

Tips, Travel Tips, United States

Los Angeles is a great city, but sometimes the hustle and bustle gets too much or your group wants to experience some entertainment that city simple does not offer. The great news is that there are lots of other wonderful places not too far outside of Los Angeles county that offer wonderful experiences that also help you to connect with those close to you. And whether you’re considering any of these for a family reunion, bachelor(ette) party weekend, or corporate retreat, a Los Angeles charter bus or minibus rental is the perfect way to make sure that everyone can enjoy the sites without getting lost along the way.

Here are a few of the best places to visit outside of LA when you and your group want to have a different type of fun and a new set of great experiences.

Joshua Tree for reconnecting with nature

Joshua Tree is a national park that is less than two hours southeast of Los Angeles and bordering on Riverside and Orange counties. The park is named for the Joshua trees that grow in the Mojave Desert and that were almost considered sacred by the natives that occupied California before it was a US state. The park offers the opportunities for nature lovers to return to their natural roots and camp, hike, climb and ride throughout the wilderness. There are several great camp grounds including: Black Rock Campground, Cottonwood Campground, and Indian Cove Campground that can be reserved a good portion of the year. There are dozens of hiking trails through Hidden Valley and other areas of the park including: Fortynine Palms Oasis, Lost Horse Mine, Lost Palms Oasis, Ryan Mountain, and Warren Peak. For those who love professional climbing, the park offers thousands of climbs of all levels although many of the best have been closed to the public due to overuse. Many come to drive on the paved and unpaved roads throughout the park. A four wheel vehicle is definitely required if you plan to go off road. Many also come to do bird watching and just to unwind in the wilderness. For a trip back in time and back to nature, Joshua Tree offers something for everyone in your group.

Malibu for surfing

On the west coast of Los Angeles country there are several beautiful beaches that line the coast. They run from San Diego to past San Francisco and contain some of the most expensive and lovely real estate in the United States. Although there are dozens of great beaches up and down the coast none is more exclusive or famous than Malibu.

The small beach city is filled with Hollywood’s most high level celebrities and business leaders and if you go there you will likely run into many. Malibu Beach has also become quite famous as s beach with some of the best waves in California. This attracts surfers from all over the US and the world who come to ride one and enter into the many surfing competitions throughout the year. With great weather almost all year round it does not matter when you come to surf, you will always have a great time and enjoy the waves.

Las Vegas for decadence

There is no city like Las Vegas in the US or even the world. Only a three hour drive or 45 minute flight from LA takes you to sin city with all of the decadence and entertainment you can handle.

The city is a 24-hour party atmosphere where you can gamble, dine, dance and chill. The heart of the city is the Las Vegas strip which boasts many of the largest and most luxurious hotels in the world and an experience to match and taste or price point. You can come to the city alone but the best way to travel to Las Vegas is in a group where you can share the adventure with friends. When you do, get ready for a once in a lifetime adventure.

Topa Topa Mountains for snow

In Ventura County, 2 hours northeast of Los Angeles, sits a snow covered mountain range called the Topa Topa Mountains. The mountains lie in an east-west direction east of the Sierra Madre Mountains, and west of the Sierra Pelona Mountains. At the south lies the Santa Clara River Valley where creeks and rivers creeks drain The Topa Topa Mountain range reaches a height of 6,716 feet at its highest point which is Hines Peak. During winter, snow frequently falls on the mountain’s highest peaks creating an opportunity for visitors to enjoy white refreshment and seeing snow in southern California. Bring a group and enjoy the views and you can also see the protected California Condor.

Pasa Robles for wine country

California is the most famous destination in the US for wine and the wine in Central California’s Pasa Robles County is some of the best in California. Sitting about two hours by car north of Los Angeles, this fertile wine region offers some of the best vineyards around and offers group wine tastings and wine tours at nearly every location.  The wine tastings are also match by Michelin chef meals who pair the perfect meals with each wine and make it an unforgettable experience. Best of all, you can both sample all of the wine and even take some home at wholesale prices.

Each of these locations is the ideal place for a group to travel. They each offer lots of things to do and provide different unique experiences that none of your group will soon forget.

6 Steps to Make Yourself Look Wealthier

Tips

The saying goes, “Dress for the job you want, not the job that you have.” This is good advice in all areas of your life. If you want to be wealthier, start out by looking wealthier. This helps you to act as a wealthy person would and start hanging out with a better crowd.

But how do you look wealthier? It is surprisingly easy. Take your cues from the Forbes’ Billionaire list and these great tips.

Start with Quality Clothing

Think custom-made or tailored outfits that fit you like a glove in good quality fabrics and classic styles. The fit is extremely important because it gives the impression that the clothes were made for you.

The quality is important because the clothing will look better on you and last better. So, it might mean spending more on a suit than you normally would getting a whole wardrobe, but you will be able to keep wearing it for a lot longer.

The style of the clothing should be kept classical so that your look never dates. This will also give you a lot more mileage from your clothing.

Always make sure that your clothing is cleaned according to the care instructions and don’t walk out of the house unless it is properly pressed and clean.

Quality Accessories

Less is often more when it comes to accessories. Browse women’s watches and other accessories with a view to finding a higher quality option. A good watch will do a lot more to create the impression of wealth than a ton of tacky, fake earrings and necklaces.

Pay Attention to Grooming

Not all wealthy people are bothered about looking expertly groomed, but you are more likely to look well-to-do if you pay attention to this area. That means keeping up your manicure, having your hair professionally cut and colored and spending time on your overall look.

You can save some money by using Groupon vouchers, etc. but don’t stint here. Think of the look you want and also factor in the cost of maintaining it. Coloring your hair, for example, might look good.

But it is not going to give an impression of wealth if your roots show because you have to eke out the time between appointments.

Get the Right Hobbies

Where does the rich set tend to play? What hobbies do they take part in? Make a plan to cultivate those same hobbies so that you can also mingle with the rich. Think about hobbies like skiing rather than things like tennis.

Most wealthy people will be able to afford a tennis court, but there is no home substitute for a mountain full of snow.

Talk the Talk

The really rich have spent time at the best schools, or possibly taking elocution lessons. It is time to start learning how to speak properly, use proper grammar and speak clearly. Think more broadcaster than “normal” person.

Volunteer

This is a good way to help give back to the community and possibly meet influential people at the same time. People working a minimum wage job are not able to take time off to volunteer.

Conclusion

When it comes to looking richer than you are, there are a lot of tricks that you can employ. The ones highlighted above are simple enough for anyone to follow.

South Africa

While many people visit the famous Kruger National Park for their authentic wildlife safari; over the years it has become extremely busy with tourists. While some travellers are more than happy to venture through the park amongst the large crowd, with hundreds of other cars; some travellers prefer a more exclusive experience. It certainly makes the encounter a lot more authentic and you’re fully able to get in touch with nature without distractions. There are a few great big 5 game reserve accommodation options throughout South Africa which may just give you a more personal, luxury experience and a much better chance of seeing the wildlife up close without having to fight past the crowds.

Kenya

Kenya is another favourite when it comes to safari’s. The most popular destination within the country is of course that of the Masai Mara. The Masai Mara is home to the great wildebeest migration – a phenomenon that attracts many visitors to the country each year. Even though many travellers make their way to the Masai Mara, it has still remained exclusive and luxurious. While you’re sure to catch sight of the big five during almost any time of the year; the wildebeest migration only takes place during the months of August and September, and again in late November -and you don’t want to miss the spectacular Mara River crossing! This crossing has been documented on National Geographic and various other wildlife documentaries because it’s an extraordinary sight. One is able to witness the ultimate fight for survival in the wild as the mammals make their way through crocodile infested waters.

Botswana

Botswana is deeply immersed in wildlife – in fact it’s one of the favourite wildlife destinations in the world. With the likes of the Okavango Delta, which attracts a vast number of wildlife due to the amount of water that accumulates in the region; as well as Chobe and Moremi National Park, it is guaranteed that you’ll see many majestic wildlife species. Botswana, however, is known to be the priciest place on the continent for safari bush breaks, but perhaps this is because it’s also one of the most beautiful and tranquil places, and it offers travellers extraordinary experiences. In Botswana one is able to take canoe safaris, boat safaris, walking safaris and many other unparalleled excursions that cannot be found in any other part of the continent.

Tanzania | Serengeti

The Serengeti in Tanzania, just like the Masai Mara, is home to the phenomenal wildlife event – the great wildebeest migration. The mammals, of which there are over two million of them, move between these two National Parks, depending on where the most rainfall is. Just like the Masai Mara, the Serengeti is rich in wildlife – you’ll certainly get more than you bargained for when visiting this incredible place. The Serengeti is absolutely exquisite and very different to many other safari destinations in Africa. This is due to the colour of the vast grasslands which have a beautiful golden tint. In the sun, these golden hues shine making it a sight unlike any other. Tanzania is also known to have some of the most beautiful African sunsets, too!

Namibia | Etosha National Park

Most people aren’t aware of the fantastic wildlife experiences to be found in Namibia. Most travellers think Namibia is a desert dreamland with not much life due to the dry conditions, but surprisingly enough, Namibia is a great option if you’re looking for an authentic wildlife safari. The Etosha National Park is home to a vast number of coveted wildlife, and is even home to the biggest population of Cheetah in Southern Africa. Cheetahs are incredibly rare and can’t be found easily even in other areas of Africa. So, best you add Etosha National Park to your African travel itinerary!

Four Ways Traveling in an RV Can Save You Money

Travel Tips

In a perfect world, you could throw caution to the wind and spend as much money as you want on vacation. Unfortunately, most of us have finite bank accounts, which means we’re always looking for ways to save money on our next vacation.

One of the best ways to save a little cash is to rent an RV! There are actually quite a few ways you can save money when you travel this way. Here are four ways that will help you save the most.

It Can Help You Save on the Cost of a Hotel

A lot about traveling isn’t cheap. One of the largest costs you’ll have to contend with is the cost of your room. Even the lowest quality rooms regularly go for $100 a night, and it isn’t uncommon for some rooms to cost $200 or more.

When you travel in an RV, you’re traveling with your own bedroom, so there’s no need to pay money for a hotel room. It’s much cheaper to rent an RV than it is to rent a hotel room too. You can rent an RV for as little as $29.00/night!

It Can Help You Save on Travel Costs

When you’re planning a vacation, you probably automatically look at airline prices. It’s true that flying in an airplane is the quickest way to get there, but it isn’t necessarily the most affordable, especially if you have to buy additional seats for family members.

No matter how many people you travel with in the RV, the price is the same. That means you don’t have to pay extra for kids, and other adult passengers can chip in.

Worried about the cost of gas? There are some really great ways to save, like slowing down on hills and traveling with less weight.

It Can Help You Save Money on Food

When traveling, you have to eat out for two or three meals a day. That’s not the case in the RV! You can save big by making your own cost-effective meals like:

  • Hot dogs over the fire
  • Walking tacos
  • Hamburgers
  • Tin foil packets using leftovers
  • Huevos rancheros

You can still go out to eat if you want, but you aren’t dependent on expensive restaurants to feed your family, which will save you wads of cash.

You May Not Have to Pay to Park Either

One of the downsides of camping is that RV parks will charge a nightly fee. Although this fee is nominal, you can save even more if you consider boondocking.

Instead of staying in the RV park, boondocking requires that you find a place to park for free. It could be in a park or a store parking lot, but you do have to be smart about where you park so you don’t get in trouble.

Traveling in an RV can be a lot of fun, and it turns out, it can be really affordable too! Once you see how much you can save on plane tickets, hotel rooms, and food, you’ll never go back to your old way of traveling again!

Homecoming Dresses: 5 Tips Every Girl Should Know

Tips

It’s that time of the year that every student looks forward to, besides graduation of course – Homecoming. Here, everyone gets the chance to rock the gorgeous outfits that they’ve been looking forward to all year. That’s why the dress has to be perfect, so you can look back at the memories and relieve them for ages to come.

1.      Embrace Your Sense of Style

This is your time to embrace your sense of style and to own it. You could incorporate the trendiest combinations with whatever color you fancy to come up with your unique homecoming dress. Whatever your choice of style at JJ’s House, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

First and foremost, what look are you aiming for? Long, formal, refined and elegant or sexy, short and elegant? Either way, elegance is essential. School rules and codes of ethics have specific guidelines that have to be followed, so this could also be put into consideration.

Remember: your style is unique to only you.

Just because a particular style looked divine on a model from your favorite magazine, your fashion icon, or celebrity doesn’t necessarily mean that it will automatically bring out the goddess in you.

The ideal way of going about this is to perform a hit and miss kind of tests from nearby malls and dress stores while seeking second opinions from your family and friends. Don’t make a mistake of ignoring what they have to say since they could offer you valuable input and ideas for your dress.

2.      Take Your Time

Do not be in a hurry to pick a dress and get it over and done with. Patience is key. With a variety of styles to choose from, you never know which might tickle your fancy. From floral prints to V-necks, to embroidered enchantments, to seductive sequins, to the ever-alluring appliques lace, the list is endless.

3.      Take the Color Aspect into Consideration

Your skin tone and the color of the dress have a considerable influence on which dress makes the final cut. Choose shades of colors that are flattering and complementing of your skin tone and complexion. This is where an invisible line is drawn between dark and fair-skinned counterparts.

Remember: Only pick what suits you and not the next person.

Once you have chosen the right dress, you will have a gut feeling. It will feel and fit just perfect. It will not go unnoticed.

Unforgettable Road Trips Start with Planning

Travel Tips

An unforgettable road trip doesn’t just happen. It takes planning and research, which can be time-consuming but which pays big dividends in the end.

Planning an unforgettable vacation road trip begins with picking a destination. With 50 states to choose from, the possibilities are limitless. Whether the road trip is across the state or across the country, selecting the destination, route and stops along the way is something everyone can be involved in.

Now is the time to invest in a good road atlas. In seconds, online trip routing programs can give you the shortest, quickest and most scenic routes from departure to arrival on both state highways and freeways. There is something magical, however, about plotting the route in an atlas that you can refer to along the way. Furthermore, while electronic devices are always at risk of losing power and/or service, a printed map will remain handy so long as it isn’t misplaced along the way.

The internet is a good place to research attractions and other tourist attractions along the way as well as at your final destination. If you have children, this can be a good activity the family can do together. Any child who can read and use a computer can be assigned to research fun things to see and do along a particular section of the route. The whole family then gets together to debate the pros and cons of the activities. This way each family member “owns” a piece of the trip, making it more enjoyable for them.

An added benefit of divvying up various duties among passengers is that it puts less pressure on the driver to multitask behind the wheel. Distracted driving is dangerous driving, and nobody wants their road trip to be unforgettable on account of it being the reason they had to shop around for SR-22 quotes when they got back home.

Deciding when to make the trip is another part of planning a road trip. Families with children usually prefer summer, while ski slopes beckon during the winter. No matter the time of year, travelers need to be prepared for the weather. For example, winter travelers in the American Midwest and the Northern United States may want to bring along a shovel, sleeping bags and a Thermos filled with a hot beverage. You never know when heavy snow may make the highways impassable and you have to wait for rescue.

Likewise, travelers to the southwestern states during the summer, when temperatures soar well above 100 degrees, should bring along a cooler filled with bottled water. Dehydration can occur quickly under the scorching sun, so they’ll need to drink plenty of water. Snacks to eat along the way are a must any time of the year.

To avoid the risk of their car breaking down on the road, savvy travelers ought to have a pre-trip vehicle inspection done before they leave home. At the very least, this should include a lube and oil change, and checking tire pressure, and heating and air conditioning systems. Make any necessary repairs before you hit the road.

About a week before you leave, make arrangements to have the local post office hold your mail or have a neighbor collect it for you. Notify your bank about the states you’ll be visiting to put a travel alert on your accounts; otherwise, the bank is likely to refuse charges on your debit and credit cards.

It’s time to hit the road now. To avoid the trip turning into a disaster, follow safe driving practices at all times. Obey all traffic signs, don’t drive when you’re tired and don’t use your cell phone to talk or text. Some states allow white crosses that represent a person killed in a traffic accident alongside the highways. You don’t want the next cross to be yours.

Planning an unforgettable road trip is both time-consuming and fun. But once you’re on the road or even back home, you’ll realize it was all worthwhile.

6 top rated things to see in Dubai

Travel

Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, is quite the amazing place. It is filled with futuristic high rise buildings and amazing shopping malls. Where once it was a desert outpost, now it is an outpost for tourists and shopping. There are so many unusual things to see in Dubai, such as indoor ski slopes, or aquariums, or gold covered rooms. It’s hard to decide where to start. Dubai is an amazing destination.

Tallest building in the world

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and probably the most famous landmark of the city. Seeing the view from the 124th-floor observation deck is the number one must do when you visit this city. Seeing the daytime view across the city’s skyline is awe inspiring. The view at night is a sea of lights and is just an amazingly beautiful vision and a popular shot with photographers. There is more to do here than just see the view however. The high-speed elevator that takes you there is an amazing trip all by itself. At the base of the tower, there are beautiful gardens with winding walkways and plenty of fountains. The Dubai Fountain is the world’s tallest performing fountain and is modeled after the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Plan on getting your ticket for the observation deck early as the lines can be incredibly long so it is best to plan ahead.

Dubai Museum

We have always said we love museums, and visiting Dubai museum is no different. Even the building itself is history. Built out of traditional coral blocks and bordered with lime, the building was built in 1787 as a defensive fort. It had been renovated many times with an extensive renovation in 1995. It is always good to see the museums of an area to get below the surface of the location you are in, to understand the places and peoples of that area.

Old Dubai

The Bastakia Quarter, often referred to as Al-Fahidi, was originally built for merchants to bring them to Dubai for the tax-free trading. Old Dubai, gives you a feel of the Dubai of the past, as it has been well preserved. There are also some exceptional galleries in this area as well

Palm Jumeirah

Palm Jumeirah is basically a man-made island, one of a set of three planned. It is one of the newer additions to Dubai and has a lot of activities and things to see. It hosts resorts, malls, beaches, pretty much something for everyone.

Dubai Aquarium

This is just a jaw-dropping attraction. It is a massive suspended fish tank in the Dubai mall, housing over 140 species of aquatic life. You can see the tank for free at the mall or you can also buy tickets and walk through the tunnels of this underwater wonderland. The tank is so large that they offer glass bottom boat rides on top of it. Imagine that.

Most expensive hotel in the world

Burj al-Arab is one of the most decadent hotels you could ever want to go to, however with suites at upwards of $15,000 a night, it better be, so you never forget the experience. There is a one of a kind dining experience there as well. The restaurant is like being in the middle of a fish tank, with wall to wall glass showing aquatic life. This hotel has to be seen to be believed, even if the price tag is a little high for that fast holiday.

There really is a lot to see in Dubai, and you will need some time to see it. Make sure that you follow all laws and rules locally, as they are very unforgiving. Dubai still holds onto age-old societal rules, it is better to always respect them. Hopefully our travel tips helped you. Enjoy a once in a lifetime trip there. Stand on the top of the tower and see the future.

9 reasons to go around the world on a cruise

Travel

Taking a cruise is one of those things that you won’t understand until you have done it. We believe the cruise is probably one of the best values from money in any vacation you can take, so have an adventure on a world cruise. It is also the most comfortable and easiest way to travel that you can possibly imagine. Cruises have been romanticized throughout the years for the very reason that they are amazing. Travel vacations don’t get better than this and here is why.

It’s easy

Cruising is just easy. Once you buy your ticket for a cruise and you are onboard, you don’t have to worry about anything else. You don’t have to worry about what hotel you are going to stay in or what restaurant you going to eat at, or how you’re going to get from place to place. They have people on the ship that will take care of you and hand-hold you through everything you could possibly need to do. There are even people on board whose job it is to make sure you enjoy yourself. So buy that ticket and let them do all the work.

No flights to worry about

You can travel the world without having to worry about it single flight. Just think about that, no reservations, no having to get to the airport 3 hours ahead of time, no waiting around, no tiny little-cramped seat, no late connecting flights, no airplane food, and no finding out your luggage on the other side has been lost. Forget airlines take the cruise.

Me time

You will have more time for yourself on a cruise. Everything is taken care of for you, so you have time to spend thinking and doing things for just you. You can be as entertained or as meditative as you want. You have time to prepare for what tours you might want to go on and plan the rest of your trip. You can even take a spa treatment as you travel and how cool is that.

Immigration

The cruise line generally takes care of most of the immigration you might have to deal with such as for entry visas. Depending on your situation, very often you do not even have to go through passport control when getting on and off a ship, which makes traveling in that foreign country so much easier.

The doctor is in

Sometimes we get sick traveling and we have to either see a local doctor or think about canceling our trip. With a cruise, there is actually medical staff on board that can take care of you. This should ease your mind quite considerably. We advise you to take the health travel insurance coverage though as onboard medical can get a bit expensive.

Shopping

One thing that people don’t realize that haven’t been on a cruise, is that the size of the cruise ships these days, can turn them into shopping malls. Even the smallest ships have multiple shops to take care of you. If you forgot to bring something instead of having to find that item in a local store or search around, it’s pretty much a guarantee that they’ll have something for you in one of the shops on the ship.

Luxury hotel

A cruise ship is basically a large luxury hotel and resort that moves around. It has everything you could possibly want, including a casino. With cruise ships, often the trip is the vacation not the destination. It’s still very nice to be able to get out of the same bed and look out and see you are in a completely different country with all new things to see.

Tours

There’s a whole department dedicated to local tours on the cruise ship. You can book local tours if you so desire but the advantage the booking with the ship are that if things run late, or there is traffic, the ship will not leave without you. No local tour can promise that.

Friends

We have saved what we believe is the best for last. The main reason we have always loved cruising is to meet new friends and new people. On a world tour, you will run into the same people all the time, in restaurants or clubs, or on various tours. We have made some great friends that we kept in touch with over many years from cruises. A good friend is worth everything and well worth the price of a cruise.

I hope this information and travel tips have got you excited to go on a cruise. If you’ve never been on a cruise before, we cannot express strongly enough that you need to go on a cruise. If you’re a cruise veteran, all of the above is already obvious to you. So all we can say is travel further and longer. Enjoy the world and save us a seat at dinner.

Day spa

We can’t really say anything more than it’s something you just have to do. Until you experience this, you will never understand it. A good day spa understands that pampering is what you are there for and will take it to the extremes if they can. If you want to feel like a princess then this is where you have to go. We personally think a day at the spa is almost better than a weekend away on a vacation. At the spa, you can get a facial which will make your face feel young and healthy and it feels so very good. You can get a massage which will relax your muscles, taking away all that tension. You can get a manicure and pedicure. Pretty much anything you want to do will be done. Many day spays will even give you a full makeover. As we said before, just do it and you will understand.

Spa hotel

If you want to take that day spa experience and add a vacation and merge them together, it will take it to a whole new level. We suggest a spa hotel. You can have personal services in your room as well as take room service in between any of the spa treatments. The beds are comfortable and you don’t have to make them. Spa hotels fill in the rest of the services that a day spa might not. They are also great places to have mother-daughter bonding, or depending on the hotel, a significant other bonding. It’s a great way to get close to a friend or someone you love, and lose all that stress.

The salon

If you don’t have the ability or the time for a day spa or even the overnight stay in the spa hotel, your next best option is the luxury salon. Get yourself a mini makeover with new makeup and a new hairstyle. Get a good manicure and pedicure with accompanying massage. Buy a new outfit, and you will feel as if you are on top of the world. We are not talking about a quick cut hair salon here, but a full service luxury salon. A good salon is there to make you feel like a million and not just to cut your hair.

All these things seem like luxuries, but trust me they are not. Sometimes your soul takes damage and pampering yourself is a good way to repair the damage that has been done by overdoing it for weeks or months. You will likely not even realize the damage has been done until you go to a spa, then you will feel all the pieces repaired and realize how bad it really was. You will face the world a new person. We hope these tips inspired you. If you have never done a spa, all we can say is it’s something you need to do as soon as possible. Thank us in your heart when you’re there.
